This Is How You Make Seafood Tom Yum With 5 Easy Steps

The soup can be served with rice or eaten as a standalone dish. Tom Yum is a staple in Thai cuisine and is enjoyed for its complex and distinct flavours. It can also be made with other proteins such as chicken, pork, or tofu, but seafood is a popular choice.

Ingredients:

  • 2 stalks of lemongrass, bruised and chopped
  • 3 kaffir lime leaves
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 2 shallots, sliced
  • 1 thumb-sized piece of galangal, sliced
  • 3-4 bird's eye chilies, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil
  • 4 cups of chicken or seafood stock
  • 1 cup of coconut milk
  • 1 tablespoon of fish sauce
  • 1 tablespoon of palm sugar
  • 1 lime, juiced
  • 1 pound of mixed seafood (shrimp, squid, mussels, etc.)
  • 1/4 cup of cilantro leaves, chopped

Instructions:

  1. Heat the oil in a pot over medium heat. Add the lemongrass, kaffir lime leaves, garlic, shallots, galangal, and chilies. Stir-fry until fragrant, about 2-3 minutes.
  2. Add the chicken or seafood stock to the pot and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat to low and simmer for 10-15 minutes.
  3. Add the coconut milk, fish sauce, and palm sugar to the pot. Stir well and simmer for another 5 minutes.
  4. Add the seafood to the pot and cook until the shrimp turn pink and the mussels open up.
  5. Remove the pot from the heat and stir in the lime juice.
  6. Garnish with cilantro leaves and serve hot with steamed rice.
