Shark fillet is one of the products of PT Kelola Laut Nusantara. Wait... When talking about shark, people think it's OK or NOT to processing and trading ? Let’s discuss.
There are two type of raw material :
Freely traded : commonly called look alike species as processed by PT Kelola Laut Nusantara. Example : milk shark (
Rhizoprionodos acutus
), gummy shark (
Mustelus widodoi
)
Non-free traded : refers to the CITES (Convention on International Trades on Endangered Species of Wild Flora and Fauna) Appendices category. CITES is a global agreement that focuses on protecting wild plant and animal species, including sharks. CITES provides benefits as a control system for trade not only in the sending country, but also in the receiving country. CITES defines three categories, that is:
Appendix I: includes shark species that are already threatened with extinction so that international trade in specimens from natural habitats must be strictly controlled and only permitted for certain purposes with a special permit. Example : pointed sawfish (
Anoxypristis cuspidat
a)
Appendix II: includes fish species that are not currently threatened with extinction, but could be threatened with extinction if international trade cannot be controlled. Example : oceanic whitetip shark (
Carcharinus longimanus
), scalloped hammerhead (
Sphyrna
l
ewini
)
, silky shark (
Carcharhinus
f
alciformis
)
, pelagic thresher (
Alopias
p
elagicus
)
, shortfin mako (
Isurus Oxyrinchus
)
Appendix III: includes certain types of games that are strictly controlled and require international control assistance.
The existence of CITES has the following objectives:
Legality: fishing and trading activities are in accordance with the laws and regulations, the principles applied in the field through licensing.
Sustainability: its population is not threatened in nature.
Traceability: the origin of the species / product found can be known.
So don’t hestitate to processing and trading shark fillet at PT Kelola Laut Nusantara !
