Learn to Make Gohu Ikan, Indonesian “Ceviche”

It consists of fresh chunks of fish mixed with ingredients such as pineapple, tomatoes, shallots and cayenne pepper, then drizzled with lime juice and eaten as a salad or side dish. Gohu Ikan is actually similar to the Latin American dish Ceviche, which is a fresh dish made from raw fish or seafood mixed with ingredients such as lime juice, tomatoes, garlic and chili. However, Gohu Ikan has a distinctive and rich seasoning that reflects the diversity of spices grown in the North Maluku region.

Here is the recipe to make Gohu Ikan:


Ingredients:

  • 250 grams of mackerel or other types of fish, cut into small cubes
  • 2 limes
  • 1 pineapple, cut into small cubes
  • 1 tomato, cut into small cubes
  • 1 onion, thinly sliced
  • 3 chili peppers, thinly sliced
  • 3 red chilies, thinly sliced
  • 1 lemongrass stick, freshen up
  • 2 cm of ginger, grated
  • 2 tablespoons coconut oil
  • Salt to taste

How to make:

  1. First, prepare the mackerel or other types of fish and cut into small cubes. Marinate the fish with lime juice and salt, then let it rest for 10 minutes.
  2. Next, add pineapple, tomatoes, onions, cayenne pepper, red pepper, lemongrass, ginger, coconut oil, and salt to a large bowl. Mix well.
  3. After that, put the cut fish into the bowl, mix well until the ingredients are well combined.
  4. Serve the fish gohu on a banana leaf as a base or in a bowl. Enjoy with warm rice.

 

Gohu ikan is usually served as an appetizer or side dish at special occasions such as weddings or traditional events in Ternate. Enjoy!
